We now have the Jorgensen Albums from Australia!

We have just taken delivery of our first Jorgensen Album from Australia and are delighted with the quality.

We have spent some time this year trying out other makes of album and have been looking for a manufacturer that provides the quality we need. The Jorgensen Albums are built to the highest standard and are hand made in Australia before being shipped to South West Photo Mounts in the UK for printing and final assembly.

The albums are available in Classic Print and Matte format, or contemporary Storybook style and we feel that these are the albums which best display our imagery and reflect the quality of our work.

We hope you think so too!

Before & After Photoshop Post Production.

One of our selling points is the amount of post production photoshop work we do on our photographs, so i thought it would be a good idea to show how this can dramatically change a picture into something a bit special. It also gives me the chance to show some examples of my landscape work!

So, here’s an example of a picture taken recently at Glen Etive near Glen Coe in Scotland. The mountain is Buachaille Etive Mor and is stunningly beautiful.

[caption id="attachment_170" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption="Before and After."]Before and After.[/caption]

In order to create mood, i took a couple of shots at different exposures in order to get some sky detail. I then blended them together, applied some further effects and a bit of dodge and burn.

How about another from the same place. This time i drove further up the road to a small white cottage i had seen in the distance. It is called Black Rock Cottage and it was surely made to be photographed! While i was there a group of people arrived who were doing a course in landscape photography. I hope they got some great shots too.

[caption id="attachment_159" align="aligncenter" width="819" caption="Before"]Before[/caption]

Again, i took a couple of shots and blended the two together and added the same effects as the previous shot……

[caption id="attachment_160" align="aligncenter" width="819" caption="After."]After.[/caption]

Finally, a shot of a cliff top church taken near Weston Super Mare. Here’s the basic shot…..

[caption id="attachment_161" align="aligncenter" width="819" caption="Before."]Before.[/caption]

And after a bit of photoshop magic…..

[caption id="attachment_162" align="aligncenter" width="819" caption="After."]After.[/caption]

I hope you enjoyed looking at some of my ‘non-wedding’ work. If you book a wedding consultation with us, you will get to see these pictures framed and on our walls at home. They look great, though i say so myself!

A Reminder about our shop window.

I noticed that on the new blog site there isn’t a mention of our window display in Saffron Walden, so here’s a reminder.

We have a permanent window display in the market town of Saffron Walden at the entrance to Holly Trees Hairdressers in Cross Street. We change the pictures around occassionally so it’s always worth taking a look to see what’s new. (You could even get your hair done – they are very good as my daughter Gabrielle will testify !)

It’s also a good opportunity to see our printed work close up and framed. We use Ultimat frames which are exclusive to photographers and are a first class frames and mounts which really display the photographs in all their glory.

We are in the process of displaying more framed prints at Bride-All, the wedding shop in Exning, near Newmarket. We are the recommended photographers of Bride-All and will be featuring in the new brochure which will be available from the wedding shop. Our framed photographs will soon be on the walls of the shop and sample wedding albums will be on display to browse through.

Collette & Stuart’s Wedding at Swynford Paddocks.

October 25th 2008, Swynford Paddocks, near Newmarket, Suffolk.

Collette and Stuart decided on an intimate wedding with just a few guests at Swynford Paddocks Hotel at Six Mile Bottom, near Newmarket in Suffolk. The hotel is a 17th Century house and makes an ideal location for weddings, providing photographers with some lovely settings.

The autumn weather had turned chilly, so we decided to do most of the pictures inside, using a blend of natural light, flash and video light.

The main window at Swynford Paddocks provides lovely soft daylight for bridal portraits.

And another of Collette at the window. I love this shot……

Collette looking stunning on the stairs at Swynford Paddocks.

Taken outside briefly before we all got too cold!

Just Married!

The staircase provides some great location shots. This was taken using ambient light and video light.

We also do Location Portraiture!

Although we predominantly do wedding photography, we also do location portraiture. After all, wedding photography is a blend of location portraiture, photojournalism and maybe a bit of fashion and landscape photography thrown in for good measure. That’s what makes modern wedding photography so challenging and exciting.

Anyway, we thought you might be interested to see a few pictures of Gabrielle, that we recently took in Saffron Walden. Location portraiture is a far more interesting and natural way to photograph people. We reckon that the studio shots and white background thing has been done to death. Fashion magazines don’t do them and neither do we.

If you would like to book a portrait session with us, please contact us to arrange a booking. We have plenty of scenes waiting to be photographed in!

Photographed in our hallway with a video light shining through the glass door.

We are constantly on the lookout for suitable backgrounds to use in location portraiture and pre wedding photoshoots. This exquisite location in Saffron Walden is perfect.

A nice, relaxed and natural pose which looks great in sepia.

Three seperate lights sources have been used in this shot, blending natural sunlight and multiple flash. We may be on location, but our lighting is still controlled for each shot.

Every picture requires a bit of post production work. This photograph has a few subtle adjustments to create a richer quality. We took the picture using a blend of flash and daylight.

We finished the photoshoot with this close up which was taken using only daylight and a reflector.

Jenny & Robin got married!

Saturday 20th September 2008. Newnham College, Cambridge.

What a great wedding! The weather was fantastic and the venue was amazing. We had a great time photographing Jenny and Robin’s wedding and our thanks to them both and their families for making us feel so welcome.

Jenny is from Melbourne, Australia and obviously brought the weather with her.  (Isn’t there a song about that?)  Jenny’s parents have a place in Cambridge, where we got started with some great pictures before heading off to Newnham College.
